  • Fourteen civilians and an Indian police officer were killed in clashes Monday in India-controlled Kashmir after a TV channel played a video that showed the destruction of a Koran in United States. Ongoing anti-India protests in the Muslim-majority region merged with outrage over the Koran desecration to spark a cycle of violence that included the torching of government buildings and an attack on a school run by a Christian missionary.

  • SEVILLE -- John O. Beichler, 83, of Seville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Akron General Medical Center. He was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Creston to John and Ruth (Smith) Beichler and was a life resident of the Seville area. He graduated from Sterling High School in the class of 1946 and attended the Christian Missionary & Alliance Church (now Freshwater Community Church) in Wadsworth.

  • HOUSTON -- Leora "Lee" Sprunger Jones, 88, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, following a brief illness. Lee was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Salem, Ore., and was raised in Orrville. She was a member of Orrville High School Class of 1940 and of Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. Lee subsequently moved to Chicago and married David A. Jones in 1955. She was actively involved in community service for Morgan Park Academy, the Beverly Art Center and the Infant Welfare Society.
