As a cancer survivor, I know it is very difficult to express your experiences and struggles with your illness to a person who has never experienced it.
I kept this in mind when I asked Dr. Rena Durr, professor of psychology in the department of behavioral sciences at Christian Brothers University, to talk about her story of surviving a cancer diagnosis.

Art is everywhere in Memphis this week: on the streets of Downtown, in the city's schools, and on the minds of the more than 100,000 people who are expected to attend the annual RiverArtsFest on South Main.
The roots of RiverArts, which runs Saturday and Sunday, stretch back to the late '80s, when it was known as the Arts in the Park festival at Overton Park. Eventually, the event moved to the Memphis Botanic Garden for several years in the mid-'90s. But after a poor showing following a move to the Christian Brothers University campus in 2004, the festival reached a dead end.

Symposium at CBU
The sixth annual Dr. Gerard A. Vanderhaar Symposium, postponed by a snowstorm, has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. today in the Christian Brothers University Spain Auditorium in Buckman Hall.

On Nov. 7, Christian Brothers University will host a training session for immigrant families on how to handle the college admissions process.
Meant for youths and their parents from all nations, a discussion will be followed by breakout sessions in languages such as Spanish and Vietnamese, said Yancy Villa-Calvo, a CBU administrator.

After 65 minutes of trying to work its way through White Station's "Rope-A-Dope" strategy, Collierville delivered the knockout punches it needed for a 2-0 victory over the Spartans in the Region 8-AAA girls soccer semifinals Tuesday at Christian Brothers University.

As part of its annual Gala Week, Ave Maria's fall dinner, which recognizes outstanding individuals who are making our community a better place to live, will be Sunday in Heffernan Hall at Christian Brothers University. This year's honorees are Brother Stanislaus Sobczyk, a former two-time president of Christian Brothers University, and Angelo Lucchesi, the first salesman for Jack Daniels whiskey. The dinner will recognize the professional and personal contributions of Brother Sobczyk and Lucchesi to numerous area Catholic, nonprofit and civic organizations.

Dr. Jack Hargett has been named dean of the School of Business at Christian Brothers University .
Prior to his appointment with the School of Business, Hargett served for the past six years as the associate academic vice president at CBU. From 1999 to 2005, he served as the assistant to the vice president for academics. In a dual capacity, Hargett also served as director of institutional research and effectiveness from 1999 to 2011. Before coming to CBU, he spent five years as a research specialist in the Office of Institutional Research at the University of Memphis.

Pieces of religious history, including a splinter said to be from the cross upon which Jesus Christ was crucified, are now on display at Christian Brothers University in its Plough Memorial Library.
The 358 relics, items that stop at the university every three years, belong to the De La Salle Archives of the Christian Brothers of the Midwest District.
