The last time Harvard-Westlake and University High squared off for a Southern Section boys' tennis title, John Kessler hadn't yet moved from New York to Irvine to take over the Trojans' program, nor was Chris Simpson coaching the Wolverines. Since Harvard-Westlake's 10-8 victory over University in the Div. II final in 1999, the teams have combined to win nine division championships, with Simpson leading the Wolverines to three in a four-year span and the Trojans capturing three of the past four in Div. I and six overall under Kessler.
