This chronic feature lets me review what recently has passed my bloodshot eyes. So pull up a chair, and welcome to Mr. Zad's comic critique:
* X-Men: Magneto Testament, Nos. 1 through 5 (Marvel Publishing, $3.99 each) - An ambitious and required story sheds light on the X- Men ubervillain's early years. Tapping into Chris Claremont's origin efforts, which reveal Max Eisenhardt (aka Erik Magnus Lehnsherr) to be a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp, writer Grek (Hulk) Pak extends the legend.

Today, the X-Men franchise is a top-grossing multimedia juggernaut with toys, video games and a cartoon series. There also have been three successful feature films, with a fourth one starring Hugh Jackman, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," hitting movie theaters in May.
Surprisingly, the XMen comic-book series wasn't initially successful when first introduced by Stan Lee and Marvel Comics in the 1960s. The book really took off the following decade when a new generation of creators, such as Dave Cockrum, Len Wein, John Byrne and Chris Claremont, put their stamp on existing characters who still resonate with readers today. They also created their own new characters who became as much a part of X-Men lore as Lee creations such as Cyclops and Jean Grey.

X-Men: The Official Game" isn't a soulless clone of the movie it has an original story that sets the scene for the feature film.
Unfortunately, that story co-written by Zak Penn, one of the film's screenwriters, and comic book writer Chris Claremont is diluted and disjointed by uninspired game design offering little more than mindless button-mashing as you wade through drab environments.
