Scarborough's baseball and softball programs recently announced the winners of several awards, including the Peter Walsh Sr. Youth Baseball Coaching Award, which was presented to Scarborough High softball coach Tom Griffin for his 15 years of work at offseason skills clinics for baseball and softball players.
Baseball players Chris Barnard and Jim Rouse received $1,000 scholarships from Libby-Mitchell American Legion Post 76. Also, the Phil Martin Scarborough Youth Baseball Awards selection committee announced its winners: Sam Dedian, Alex O'Connor and Stephen Swaney, development team; Wyatt Bridgham, Jack Vincent and Sam Warren, seventh-grade team; and Ben Greenberg, eighth-grade team. The awards aim to encourage dedicated players to continue playing at the high school level.

DOVER-FOXCROFT - A benefit spaghetti supper and a 50-50 raffle will be held for the family of Chris Ames of Barnard Plantation at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the American Legion Hall on Park Street in Dover-Foxcroft.
Chris, 11, is receiving treatment for a brain tumor, which has claimed the vision in one of his eyes. He is continuing to receive treatment, and proceeds from this event will help the family defray costs of travel and accommodations during those treatments.

During his lecture, "we will be talking about the epidemic of our time, which is diabetes," [Neal Barnard, M.D.] said during a recent phone interview. "It's not only a devastating epidemic, it's doubled in the past 10 years or so. The rates of diabetes are just going up and up and up.
Our study participants found the vegan diet easier to stick with than the standard - or American Diabetes Association - diet," Barnard said. "That's because no one has to cut calories, watch portion sizes, or limit carbohydrates."
"I call this reversing diabetes, I don't call it curing," Barnard said. "If [Vance] went back to his old diet, the diabetes probably would come roaring back."

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (``Commission'' or ``CFTC'') is adopting rules to implement new statutory provisions enacted by Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. These rules address: The documentation between a customer and a futures commission merchant that clears on behalf of the customer; the timing of acceptance or rejection of trades for clearing by derivatives clearing organizations and clearing members; and the risk management procedures of futures commission merchants, swap dealers, and major swap participants that are clearing members. The rules are designed to increase customer access to clearing, to facilitate the timely processing of trades, and to strengthen risk management at the clearing member level.
