When prosecutor Chris Baker heads home for the Christmas weekend, he said he won't think about the post-holiday, driving-under-the- influence cases he might see in the weeks and months afterwards.
Definitely, if I'm driving home late, I know to be cautious because I know more people tend to drink during the holidays," said Baker, whose caseload for the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office includes DUIs.

Mikki Cruz, Regional Manager for Catapult Online, said, "This is a great opportunity for families; however, many people do not know it's available. We were able to raise public awareness about this offering and the educational benefits of the Catapult Online program through this breakfast.
[Chris Baker] and his Jets will play at Jacksonville this Sunday. He said, "I attended public schools in Queens growing up so I understand what students are facing in this community. I wish I had a program like Catapult when I was growing up. So I'm here to encourage and support your participation in Catapult Online because it will not only help you in school, but in life."

Chris Baker started Pickles-N-Things out of her home three years ago after she'd lost a part-time job. She makes things with decadent, quirky names like lemon pie jam and raspberry-jalapeno jam, tomato and apple salsa and pumpkin dip.
Her store is online, at picklesandthings.com (husband Norm came up with the name), and she'll be at LA's Best Home & Garden Show at the Colisee next weekend.

Sparkling diadems, velvets and satins, winking lights, shining eyes and apple-pink cheeks will blaze in reflected glory at El Monte Sagrado Living Resort and Spa Friday (Nov. 30), when the Seventh Annual Festival of Trees and Wreaths gets under way in the main salon -- all goosed by the grease of Vanilla Pop, the Taos music sensation taking the state by storm (see related story, page 36).
Nowhere else, in just one evening, can you help feed Taos, protect public lands and save a dog's life, festival founder Chris Baker likes to point out. Baker brought the festival with him from Belen when he joined The Taos News as publisher in 2000. More than $120,000 has been raised, he said, through the last six years' events and there's no end in sight.
