This is the year of the White Tiger, according to the Chinese horoscope - bringing drama, intensity and change.
This is a prime year for seizing opportunities and making the most of our personal and unique talents. As the old song says, "The times they are a-changin.' " And those changes can come fast in a tiger year. Blink, and you could miss that chance of a lifetime!

Every dog is about to have its day. Actually, make that 12 months.
Because on Sunday, the Chinese horoscope spins around to the Year of the Dog, plucking the calendar from the talons of 2005's Year of the Rooster. So, cat-fanciers go cough up a hairball. The Chinese lunar calendar years 4703-4704 belongs to all things canine.

While the Chinese horoscope attributes such auspicious qualities as intelligence, charisma and compassion to those born in the Year of the Rat, economists are warning that it could be an increasingly difficult period for China's overheating economy. They already are questioning the wisdom of the State Council's decision in January to intervene in the market to impose price controls on basic necessities. Another factor that may cause a crimp in China's economy this year is the end of the buildup to the Summer Olympics.

[Tim Daisy], [Aram Shelton] and bassist Jason Ajemian were born in the Year of the Dragon, 1976. Dragons born that year are also fire dragons as per the Chinese horoscope: "It's like two dragons in one," says Daisy. "We're double dragons." Firedrake traits like bigness and fearlessness fit their music, like in the sweltering "Brand New," where Omette Coleman hues get jacked up Afro-beat style.
Sure, Chicago's smoky dives and shadowed streetlights live in the music's dark spots, but no more than the 1960s avant-garde hangs out in their abstract parts. There's some old-school minimalism at work in their love of a good drone, too. "I'm most proud of the focus, since we found out that you don't have to play aggressively to play intensely," says Daisy. "I'm also proud of how fluid the disc i...

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Just off two interstate highways north of Pittsburgh, behind the Bed Bath & Beyond and directly next door to Panera Bread, sits a nondescript storefront called the Dynasty International Buffet.
Inside, the centerpiece of a 250-seat dining room is an enormous buffet nearly as sprawling as the parking lot outside. Its steam tables brim with the familiar names of Americanized Chinese food: lo mein, fried dumplings, hot and sour soup, pepper steak, General Tso's chicken. On the tables are Chinese-zodiac place mats; on the far wall, a backlit picture of the Great Wall looms.
