DAYTON -- The students of Dayton's Freedom Schools are leading a march Wednesday against violence. "This march empowers the kids," said Tashira Collier of Unified Health Solutions, an organization that provides programs for young people and is partnering with the Children's Defense Fund's Freedom Schools program. Although the Jim Crow laws of racial discrimination were struck down decades ago, the original vision of Freedom Schools has inspired the creation of the new CDF Freedom Schools program dedicated to engaging adults in our communities and enlisting a second generation of young people in the mission of empowering children.
