On Oct. 2, UPS presented the Memphis Urban League (MUL) with a $24,000 grant in support of its Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools initiative. The Freedom Schools program is a free summer and after-school program with a focus on reading, cultural and social development, and parental involvement. MUL has offered the summer program since June 2010 and serves children in third through eighth grades. The UPS grant will allow MUL to begin offering the after-school model this year to students in Kindergarten through fifth grades.
