WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE -- The Air Force's 90-day freeze on hiring appears to allow hiring of Air Force Institute of Technology faculty, civilians whose jobs are funded by the National Intelligence Program, and child-care personnel on bases, according to an executive letter outlining terms of the freeze.
What isn't clear in the Aug. 11 letter by senior Air Force officials is whether Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will be allowed to continue hiring acquisition personnel that could add approximately 1,000 or more jobs to the Aeronautical Systems Center staff by summer 2014. The center handles acquisition and support of major Air Force weapons and aircraft programs and military sales to U.S. allies.
