- Apple Growers Expect Smaller Crop This Year
WENATCHEE (AP) -- Washington apple growers are predicting a harvest smaller than the large harvest of last year, whose size sent prices slumping. Growers have estimated the 2005 harvest at 94.9 million boxes, down 8 percent from the 103.2 million-box crop in 2004, according to the Wenatchee Valley Traffic Association and the Yakima Valley Growers-Shippers Association. Each box weighs around 42 pounds.
