  • Ahrens Contracting Inc. is suing the developers of condominiums at Park Plaza Tower for unpaid demolition bills of $550,000. Kingsdell, the ownership group of the Chase Park Plaza hotel and the adjacent Park Plaza Tower, began a $140 million conversion of the apartments on 18 of the 30 floors in the tower about three years ago. The condominium development is called The Private Residences at The Chase Park Plaza.

  • The job of practicing law, court budget cuts, outstate venues and about a dozen plaintiffs' attorneys took their licks at the 53rd annual Gridiron Show. Some 500 people attended the $100 a ticket musical-comedy dinner event Friday at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis. Thirty-four lawyers, from 20 law firms, and two judges danced, sang and acted their way across the stage, while a half dozen judges joined 10 attorneys who performed in video skits.

  • The Caribbean Community also made a clear statement on the issue.   • A jury ruled for the defense in a premises liability case filed after a prominent advocate for the disabled was hurt in a fall in a darkened theater. The St. Louis Circuit Court jury last month found that Famous 5 Theaters wasn't responsible for injuries suffered by patron Max Starkloff during a 2007 visit to its establishment at Chase Park Plaza. He fell from his wheelchair after encountering stairs in the theater.

  • The food was hot, and the applause was loud as the St. Louis Daily Record honored attorneys Shulamith Simon, Gayle Williams and state Rep. Margaret Donnelly at its annual Daily Record Justice Awards Dinner, held Thursday night at The Chase Park Plaza Hotel Starlight Roof. Donnelly received the Daily Record Citizenship Award, which is given annually to a woman who merits recognition for distinguished service in the interest of justice in the community at large.

  • A case stemming from a car accident near the Chase Park Plaza hotel in St. Louis has resulted in a $325,000 settlement. The collision occurred in November 2008 when Mary Ann Sweeney tried to turn onto Lindell Boulevard and collided with plaintiff Tara White's vehicle, according to the lawsuit filed in St. Louis Circuit Court. White alleged various back injuries, resulting in the need for three surgeries, said White's attorney, Shaun Falvey of Brown & Crouppen.

  • Calling it a "ghetto culture that celebrates criminals and ignorance," [SPEAKS-Earl Graves] said America is exploiting African-American culture, many times with our "blessings. Graves told the audience at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel that the magazine's first hurdle "was convincing advertisers that there is an African-American business class." While white youths are the largest consumers of "ghetto culture," Graves said, "a white person can dean themselves up when they are through clownin' and go out and get a job. That's not true for Black people, especially Black young men."

  • Nearly 700 people glammed up and gathered for Legal Services of Eastern Missouri's 21st Justice for All Ball on Saturday night at the Chase Park Plaza. I was so heartened, so inspired and really overwhelmed by the support once again from the St. Louis community, especially the legal community," said LSEM Executive Director Dan Glazier.

  • BBB to honor United Services The local chapter of the Better Business Bureau will present its TORCH award next month to St. Charles County-based United Services. The local not-for-profit, which cares for disabled preschoolers, will be honored during a luncheon on Oct. 29 at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis.

  • It pays to be observant. While walking around the Central West End last month, stylist Casey Ray peered into a trash bin behind the Chase Park Plaza and found scripts for "New Moon" and "Memoirs" - sequels to the vampire sensation "Twilight.
