A small group gathered Wednesday afternoon at Pine Grove Cemetery in Falmouth for a graveside service for Charles "Larry" Phillips, a retired master electrician and dedicated family man who died Sunday. He was 94. Among those attending were his two daughters, Cynthia Doughty of Cape Elizabeth and Susan Howard of Amherst, Mass., along with their spouses and children.
An unusual case met an atypical end Friday in Salem Circuit Court when a judge struck prosecutors' evidence and subsequently found a driver not guilty of involuntary manslaughter. In 47 years of practice, I've never had a case like this," said defense attorney Charles Phillips, whose client, David Matthews, 56, of Salem was cleared of criminal charges in the death of his girlfriend, Melissa Moore.
Charles Jeffrey "Jeff" Phillips, 53, of Elizabethtown, died on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his home. Born in Hershey, he was the son of the late Lois Gantz and Charles Phillips. He was the husband of Connie S. (Olesen) Phillips of Elizabethtown. Jeff was a 1973 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. Retiring in 2006, he was employed as a mechanic by M and M Mars, Elizabethtown for 33 years.
PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Bill Phillips, 74, passed away peacefully on June 6 at Countryside Healthcare Center, after suffering the ravages of Alzheimer's disease for several years. He was born in Madison County, N.C., to Perry and Ella Fox Phillips. Bill grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains area just outside Asheville with his four siblings: Marie (Phillips) Holcombe, Robert and Charles Phillips and Larry McLaughlin. Although he left the area at the age of 18, he always said that God must have been a Tarheel because he made the sky Carolina Blue.
