  • Mr. Charles Elliott Brown (Charlie Brown), of Hyattsville, Md., entered into eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Md. Charles was a native of Petersburg, Va., born on Jan. 21, 1951, to Emma Harris Brown and the late Herbert W. Brown Sr. At an early age he confessed Christ and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Va. As a teen he sang with a gospel group called the Awakening Echoes. Charles later joined the West Hyattsville Baptist Church in Hyattsville, Md. He attended elementary school in Chesterfield County and Carver High School in Chester, Va. After relocating to Maryland in 1968, he attended and graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Md.

  • Mr. Charles Leonard Brown, affectionately known as 'Pewee' and 'Charlie B,' of 122 Shore St., Petersburg, Va., departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. He was baptized years ago at High Street Church of Christ, Petersburg, and often attended Morning Star Baptist Church. He was a member of Petersburg High School Class of 1976 and a former employee of Bellwood Defense Supply Center and a U. S. Army veteran.

  • PORTSMOUTH - Coach Charles E. "Shotgun" Brown was born March 19, 1921 and passed away at his home in Cookeville, Tenn., on June 8, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Little Brown. Coach Brown was a native of Portsmouth, where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School and starred in football. He attended Duke University until 1942 when he joined the U.S. Army and served in France during World War II. After the war, he attended East Carolina University and graduated from Memphis State University. He was assistant football coach at Great Bridge High School and Churchland High School. He took over as head football coach at Churchland in 1953.
