Former state treasurer's predecessor Montoya testifies he received cash payments in bathroom stalls
ALBUQUERQUE - Former state Treasurer Michael Montoya testified Tuesday that a major campaign donor for Gov. Bill Richardson gave him as much as $100,000 cash in exchange for state investment business. Montoya, who took the stand in the federal criminal trial of ex-treasurer Robert Vigil, said investment broker Guy Riordan gave him cash payments in restaurant bathroom stalls, his car and Riordan's truck during his two terms as treasurer. Riordan has not been charged with a crime. Prosecutors are trying to establish a larger pattern of corruption in the Treasure's Office, and Montoya is a key witness in that effort.
