MERIDEN -- The case of a New Haven man -- a former Bridgeport city official convicted in a 2001 corruption scandal -- accused of first-degree sexual assault has been transferred to Superior Court in New Haven. Patrick Coyne, 51, was being held in lieu of $300,000 bail after his arraignment Tuesday in Superior Court in Meriden. Judge Philip Scarpellino transferred the case to Part A in New Haven for April 19. Coyne was charged Monday with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor after a three-month investigation by Hamden Detectives Stephen Rossacci and Scott Levenduski of the Special Victims Unit. Detective Raymond Quinn, assigned to the U.S. Marshal Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, arrested Coyne at his home at 806 Edgewood Ave., Capt. Ronald Smith said.
A high-ranking Paterson police officer has been charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly pointed a handgun at his girlfriend and dragged her out of the house early Saturday morning. Lt. Patrick Papagni was placed on modified duty and stripped of his guns following his arrest for domestic violence.
AUBURN -- A registered sex offender faces years in prison after his videotaped street arrest last week in the alleged beating and choking of his wife and the assault of two teenage boys who came to her rescue at her 114 College St. home. Shawn Latham, 40, of 94 College St. was charged last week with domestic violence assault and two counts of assault. He appeared Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court where he denied violating the terms of his probation. He was held without bail pending a continued probation hearing scheduled for Aug. 24.
A Chatsworth man suspected of killing two people and shooting at cops as they tracked him down was charged with assault on police but not murder, authorities said Wednesday. Authorities cited the ongoing investigation into the two decomposing bodies that were found dumped behind a home in the 20400 block of Lassen Street on Aug. 12 as the reason that Brent Darrin Zubek was not yet charged with murder.
MILLINOCKET - A Grindstone man was being held at Penobscot County Jail in Bangor late Thursday after he assaulted a woman in East Millinocket and suffered a cut to his hand, then eluded police for several hours, police said. Paul Cormier, 36, was charged with domestic assault, criminal mischief and hindering the report of a crime late Wednesday. The charges are connected to a fight with a woman police described as his girlfriend at an address on Maple Street in East Millinocket at about noon that day.
A Washington County man was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly cutting a North Charleroi man's neck with a knife Saturday night and repeatedly punching him. Clifton Vernel Barnes, 46, of North Charleroi is being held at Washington County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bond.
ROCKLAND A Spruce Head man is sitting in Knox County Jail charged with committing a slew of crimes, including threatening to kill his wife after she threatened divorce, according to court documents. William Waldron, 46, of Spruce Head is charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, possession of a firearm, aggravated criminal trespass and violating conditions of release involving two alleged crime sprees.

PROSPECT PARK -- A Haledon man who ran from police after his car was pulled over Thursday on North Sixth Street was charged with eluding and assault, Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik said. Chris Cross, 28, also was charged with obstruction, Berdnik said. He was being held at the Passaic County Jail in Paterson on $20,000 bail.
Memphis police arrested the father of an alleged bully on Thursday night after the father was accused of using a semiautomatic handgun to threaten three boys and a young man who confronted his son . Police charged Terrence Whaley, 38, of Memphis, with four counts of aggravated assault. Whaley was held in Shelby County Jail on $400,000 bond.
