KETTERING -- A Troy man was charged Monday, April 20, with causing harm to a police dog after Kettering police said he tried to shadowbox police K-9 Brix.
Lance P. Cole, 24, of McKaig Avenue, is scheduled to appear in Kettering Muncipal Court for the second-degree misdemeanor charge on May 1, according to online court records.

NORWALK -- Five people charged in connection with a crime spree that included the slaying of a Subway sandwich clerk in Whittier appeared in Norwalk Court on Wednesday.
The five were in court to receive a date for their preliminary hearing, but instead both sides agreed to return to court on Sept. 28, when the preliminary hearing date is expected to be set.

Waukesha - A former Town of Brookfield police officer, who has served a prison term for a sex crime, has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl over a three-year period.
Daniel A. Mahnke, 39, of the village of Pewaukee is charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of exposing a child to harmful material, both felonies. He also is charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault.

During recent years, research about female sexual offender recidivism rates using official criminal justice records has increased. Although informative, rearrest or conviction rates may be insufficient for this population. This study examines two potential outcome measures for accurately studying recidivism among 57 female sexual offenders; a criminal recidivism measure based on formal legal charges and a reported recidivism measure based on child welfare reports. Based on the criminal recidivism outcome measure, 10 (17.5%) women were charged for a subsequent sexual crime.
