Action flick, sci-fi thriller, metaphysical adventure, incoherent allegory, ethical hypothesis, and horror film all at once, this mad multitasker has the agenda of a dozen movies.

THE tragic death in combat of numerous marine reservists from Ohio occurred shortly after Steve Bochco's "Over There,' his grim but pro-war tale of the Iraq quagmire, premiered on television (FX channel). The loss of those young men also occurred too late to have any impact on Ohio voters, who narrowly elected a pro-war Republican in a special congressional election. Thinking about these events reminded me that back in the 1930s, kids in public school still read poetry. One of my favorites was Alfred Tennyson's tale of courage and an unquestioning sense of duty, "The Charge of the Light Brigade,' with the line, Theirs not to reason why.
