Same-day voter registration works in Maine. I am a ballot clerk in Woodstock and we have a system for checks and balances on registration or change-in-address forms on the day of voting. We have done this for years without a problem. If anything, especially in rural Maine, all people -- Democrats, Republicans and independents -- need to be encouraged to vote. Making people come an additional time to the town office can be a burden, even more so when people are working and the town offices aren't open late.
SEYMOUR --The registrars of voters are conducting the annual voter registration canvass. Those who receive a canvass letter are asked to return it to the registrar's office at 1 First St. as soon as possible. Only voters who have contacted the Post Office with a change of address during the past year will receive a letter regarding confirmation of voting address.
