John Lombardi, president of the Louisiana State University System, made his first trip to the University of New Orleans on Sept. 17 as its new interim chancellor. It was the day after he removed Tim Ryan from the post, the final chapter in what Ryan describes as a stormy relationship between him and system leadership. Lombardi's decision agitated skeptics who for decades have felt that the LSU System has thwarted local leadership and cherry picked premium programs and grant funding from New Orleans to bolster its main campus in Baton Rouge.
