Besides WVU Parkersburg, which started as a branch of WVU, five other community colleges were tied to four-year institutions: Mountwest is moving off the Marshall University campus into a five-story building on Huntington's Fifth Street that can house more than 30 classrooms and labs as well as a host of other college facilities, according to a Mountwest news release. "The problem we have with community colleges located on four-year campuses is there is not capacity for them to grow," said Jim Skidmore, chancellor of the state's community college system.

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Board of Regents postponed on Friday, Feb. 29, its announcement of the firstround winners of state grants for the Choose Ohio First Scholarship program.
The board's chancellor, Eric Fingerhut, said he is still conducting a "deep review" of colleges' and universities' proposals for the funds and plans to make final decisions by March 7. A panel has already reviewed the 28 proposals from institutions around the state and made recommendations, but Fingerhut makes the final selections.

West Virginia officials prepared Friday to replace the state's higher education chancellor, as he was on the verge of accepting a job in Tennessee.
Brian Noland was recommended by Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan to be the ninth president of East Tennessee State University, a 15,000-student public college in Johnson City, Tenn. The Tennessee Board of Regents will vote on Noland's approval at a meeting on Monday.
