For months I've been telling everyone they need to have a passport by Jan. 1 to go anywhere outside the United States. The government changed it again!
If you are going out of the country by air, you still need a passport and have for several months. However, if you are leaving the country by land or sea, they have extended the date you will need a passport until sometime next summer. No specific date has been given. So, if you are going on a Mexican Rivera cruise in January, or plan a trip by car to Canada this spring, don't worry if you don't have your passport yet. You will still need proof of citizenship, i.e. your original birth certificate or a certified copy of your birth certificate plus photo identification. However, I suggest you don't put off applying for a passport; you will...

Some competent, credible evidence supported the trial court's finding that biological father did not fail without justifiable cause to provide maintenance and support for minor child for period of one year.

LD 34, "An Act To Require Candidates for Public Office To Provide Proof of Citizenship," proposes an amendment to state law to read: "A candidate for nomination by primary election shall show proof of United States citizenship in the form of a certified copy of the candidate's birth certificate and the candidate's driver's license or other government-issued identification to the Secretary of State.
Birther"-inspired legislation of this sort is percolating in several other states. In Maine, the bill would apparently exclude any naturalized citizen from running in primary elections. If there is a loophole in current state law, isn't there more appropriate wording? Do we actually have a problem with non-citizens running for office or is this ? Shouldn't our represen...

The House has retreated from its commitment to ensure equal access to the voting booths. It passed a photo ID bill that would impose new, substantial and unnecessary barriers, especially to vulnerable citizens - minorities, the elderly, the poor, the disabled and even married women.
THE MISLEADINGLY named "Federal Election Integrity Act" would require eligible voters to obtain photo identification to participate in a federal election. This barrier would force otherwise eligible voters to jump through bureaucratic hoops before voting. They would have to pay fees to obtain a government-issued ID card and underlying documentation (such as a certified copy of one's birth certificate).
