• Cerritos College Trustees Adopt New Election System

NORWALK - The Cerritos Community College District Board of Trustees on Wednesday adopted a new plan to create seven trustee districts, a change from its previous at-large voting system. The change comes following a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in September alleging the district's system for electing board trustees leaves Latino voters underrepresented. The suit noted the district is more than 50 percent Latino but the seven- member board has no current Latino trustees and has not had more than one Latino trustee at a time since 2003.

NORWALK - Cerritos College President/Superintendent Noelia Vela has been appointed as the new chancellor of the San Bernardino Community College District, officials announced last week. During the four-year tenure of Vela, who began at Cerritos College in 2004, she encouraged faculty to apply for federal, state, business, and industry grants, with an 80 percent success rate in paid grant requests.
