NEW YORK, Oct. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) will provide $1.9 million to support Ceregene Inc.'s Phase II study of CERE-120. This novel gene therapy product, which uses a vector to deliver neurturin, a potent nervous system trophic factor, has shown potential in preclinical studies to slow or stop Parkinson's disease progression. The funding follows on the announcement of promising early results from Ceregene's open-label Phase I trial of CERE-120, which also received Foundation support.

Fox Foundation for Parkinsonbs Research (MJFF) today announced a three- year grant of approximately $740,000 to Ceregene, Inc., a San Diego- based biotechnology company. The grant will help fund Ceregenebs Phase I clinical study of CERE-120, a novel gene therapy product that has shown potential in pre-clinical testing to slow or stop the progression of Parkinsonbs disease by using a vector to deliver neurturin, a potent nervous system growth factor.
