The news: A new nutrition ratings report from Consumer Reports found that some breakfast cereals marketed heavily to children are more than 50 percent sugar by weight. Only four of the 27 cereals studied rated "very good," with the rest rated as "good" or "fair.
The report: Post Golden Crisp and Kellogg's Honey Smacks are more than 50 percent sugar and nine other cereals are at least 40 percent sugar. Cheerios, Kix, Honey Nut Cheerios and Life were rated "very good" because they are relatively low in sugar and have high dietary fiber. Rice Krispies is low in sugar but rated only "fair" because it is higher in sodium and has zero grams of dietary fiber. The lowest-rated cereals were Honey Smacks and Corn Pops, which is high in sugar and has no fiber.

Good health is helpful in fighting stress. But many people are weakening in their New Year's resolutions to eat healthier and exercise. University of Illinois Extension recommends limiting high- sugar, high-fat snacks and replacing them with whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables that fill you up, give you energy and are high in fiber without being high in calories.
