CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- A school district that gained the support of President Barack Obama for promoting accountability after it fired all its teachers from a struggling school announced on Sunday it had reached an agreement with the union to return the current staffers to their jobs.
The two sides said a transformation plan for Central Falls High School for the coming school year would allow the roughly 87 teachers, guidance counselors, librarians and other staffers who were to lose their jobs at the end of this year to return without having to reapply. More than 700 people had already applied for the positions.

YAKIMA - Jon P. Larson, 54, of Union Gap, Washington went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2010 at Yakima Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 14, 1956 in Watertown, South Dakota to John and Barbara (Peterson) Larson. He moved with his family to Union Gap in 1967. He attended Union Gap School and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1974. Jon had been an electrician at Hanford for several years before receiving his A.A. degree from Yakima Valley College. He graduated from Central Washington University with a B.A. in Education. Jon substituted in the Yakima School District before accepting a teaching position at Franklin Middle School.
