Susan Quigley-Duggan was born near Boston, earned a bachelor's degree from Hartt College of Music at the University of Hartford, Conn., and her doctorate from the University of Connecticut, but she sounds just like she had been born and raised in Fayette, her home since 2006. Susan is the assistant professor of voice and opera and a member of the Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University.
VIRGINIA BEACH - Nancy Carlson Straube, 49, died Nov. 30, 2010, with her family at her side. She was born Aug. 20, 1961, in St. Louis. Nancy graduated from Central Methodist University (1983), where she found the love of her life, Ricky Straube. They married Dec. 8, 1984, and enjoyed 25 years of marriage.

James Thogmorton's middle name was Pleasant, an apparently fitting description for a man deeply connected to students for more than a half-century at Central Methodist University in Fayette. He was the kindest, most pleasant soul I've ever known," Cathy Thogmorton, his daughter, said yesterday. James Thogmorton, dean emeritus of alumni affairs and former dean of students at Central Methodist, died yesterday at age 88.
A 23-year-old woman died last night after she was struck by lightning after fishing with friends near Rocky Fork Conservation Area north of Columbia. The Boone County medical examiner's office identified her as Georgette Tillett, 23, of Waynesville. Publically available data online indicate she was a recent graduate of Central Methodist University and a cross-country runner.
Central Methodist University freshman pitcher Aubrey Utley earned her school-record 20th win and eighth shutout in the first game of a 10-0 and 8-4 doubleheader sweep of Stephens yesterday at Cosmo Park. Utley (20-3) struck out seven and Kelsey Johnley hit a grand slam for the Eagles (36-13). Stephanie Sullivant added a two-run homer.
Central Methodist softball players Stephanie Sullivant and Kayla Yount made the Academic All-District 7 team. Sullivant is expected to graduate with a 4.0 GPA as a business management major and hit .384. Yount holds a 4.0 GPA in business. Central Methodist University baseball player Tyler Belt made the same team. He has a 3.88 GPA in athletic training/pre-physical therapy and finished the season with a .331 batting average.
