BLOOMINGTON - The $283.7 million third-quarter net loss posted by Busey Bank's parent company was primarily due to ongoing credit problems in Florida and won't negatively affect Central Illinois customers, the bank's local president said Wednesday.
First Busey Corp., based in Urbana, on Tuesday said its provision for loan losses - a non-cash expense that covers future losses on loan defaults - rose to $140 million in the quarter that ended Sept. 30. That's up from $47.5 million in the second quarter of 2009, an increase the company blamed on a high number of nonperforming loans in its Florida market.

BLOOMINGTON -- Two Central Illinois residents Friday told Federal Reserve Board officials that a merger between Bank One Corp. and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. will hurt rural communities.
Larry Huelskoetter of Beason was the only farmer to testify at the merger hearing in Chicago. About 60 other presenters, including bank officials, testified. About 40 people attended as representatives of Bloomington-based Central Illinois Organizing Project, a faith-based community group.

Central Bank Illinois, based in Geneseo, Illinois, is commemorating its centennial in 2007, starting with a customer celebration on February 23, the 100th anniversary of the day the bank opened its doors. The bank, founded in Geneseo, has five offices in three counties. John J. DuBois, president and CEO, said the company looks to expand in traditional and non-traditional markets. This month, the bank is unveiling a special edition cookbook. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to charity. In addition, the bank has commissioned its own special label wine, bottled by a local winery.
