AUGUSTA, Maine, June 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC), part of the Department of Health and Human Services, today launched DESERVE TO KNOW, an educational campaign to increase HIV/AIDS testing through a website, public service messages (PSAs), and free print and online content.
DESERVE TO KNOW begins today throughout Maine with a concentration of PSAs as well as the rollout of campaign literature, and will continue throughout the year. The initiative targets the group hardest hit by the diseasebmen who have sex with men.

This contest is sponsored by CDC in conjunction with the Office of the Surgeon General, HHS. This contest has been designed to engage youth and young adults in developing original videos in conjunction with the launch of the 2012 Surgeon General's Report, ``Preventing Tobacco Use among Youth and Young Adults.'' Specifically, the contest will engage youth and young people in considering how tobacco use impacts their health, how the tobacco industry reaches youth through marketing, and other tobacco-related influences.

Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, millions in federal tax dollars have flowed into Maine to improve preparedness for all manner of disasters and public health emergencies. The money has come primarily to two state agencies, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Maine Emergency Management Agency, which have sent it to regional, county and local agencies. The funding has been invested in equipment, supplies, training and communications systems for events ranging from hurricanes and blizzards to pandemic influenza, mass-casualty transportation disasters and bioterrorism.
