A conversation last night about education in Missouri at Hickman High School often turned to discussion about how the General Assembly could double the cigarette tax and provide more money for education.
Dozens of Hickman students gathered in the school's auditorium for the annual "Speak Your Mind" forum in which presenters answer questions from the audience of mostly students. This is the 20th anniversary of the forums. The first was about music censorship and held in a room at Columbia Mall.

Then we read headlines, like "Al Sharpton Leads Mardi Demanding 'Decency' in Hip-Hop Lyrics" and "Reverend Jesse Jackson Holds Hip-Hop Town Hall Meeting in Chicago."

The name "Clear Channel" became shorthand for everything wrong with terrestrial (non-satellite) radio: lack of diversity, repetitious music, boring programming, too many commercials, censorship, jingoism, ad nauseam.
