CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Gerald J. "Jerry" Ramm, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a vigil service at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.

RIPLEY - Earlier this week, Aniket Zinzuwadia, of Beckley, and his fellow students learned about the pros and cons of wind turbines. In the morning, they considered how to design and build wind turbine blades to produce the most power. The students considered the blades angle, weight, length and width, shape, position and materials to build it. Unfortunately, the turbines also kill birds and bats, Zinzuwadia noted. It was pretty fun, he said. I learned a lot. Zinzuwadia is among 77 rising 10th-graders from 38 counties at the first West Virginia Youth Science Camp at Cedar Lakes Conference Center near Ripley. BLOOMINGTON - Vegetables weren't the only things planted behind Cedar Ridge Elementary School on Thursday afternoon.
Seeds of knowledge were taking root in second-graders after they planted vegetables in a new teaching garden, sponsored and dedicated by the American Heart Association, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center and McLean County Unit 5. The garden is the first of its kind in Bloomington-Normal.

Private family burial will take place at a later date in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.

Last October 10, 13,000 people gathered on a balmy day for an annual rite in Cedar Rapids, IA: the Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer. Infants to nonagenarians from 447 cities in 30 states assembled to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer screening. Survivors wore pink scarves.
