Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a vigil service at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
RIPLEY - Earlier this week, Aniket Zinzuwadia, of Beckley, and his fellow students learned about the pros and cons of wind turbines. In the morning, they considered how to design and build wind turbine blades to produce the most power. The students considered the blades angle, weight, length and width, shape, position and materials to build it. Unfortunately, the turbines also kill birds and bats, Zinzuwadia noted. BLOOMINGTON - Vegetables weren't the only things planted behind Cedar Ridge Elementary School on Thursday afternoon. Seeds of knowledge were taking root in second-graders after they planted vegetables in a new teaching garden, sponsored and dedicated by the American Heart Association, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center and McLean County Unit 5. The garden is the first of its kind in Bloomington-Normal.
