When AM Best Co began rating the financial strength of insurance companies in 1906, subscribers began requesting information on insurance attorneys who were competent to handle their litigation, adjustments and investigations. As the frequency of these requests increased, the company began, in February 1929, to publish the reference work now known as Best's Directories of Recommended Insurance Attorneys and Adjusters. As one of the oldest law firms in Birmingham and in the state of Alabama, Spain & Gillon has stayed true to one of its founding principles -- serving its clients through professional excellence and an undivided attention to details. For more than 100 years, Rice, Dolan & Kershaw has served clients with dedication, experience and reliability, traits that can only be...

The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Friday that a man severely injured in a 2002 auto accident will be able to collect a jury verdict from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and its insurer that has now risen to more than $23 million with interest.
The trial court verdict, which was upheld by an appeals court decision, of $17 million will stand because the high court was equally divided on the matter.

The high court said its members deadlocked, 3-3, on whether the award should be overturned, with the seventh justice sitting the case out. As a result, an appeals court decision upholding the award to Hjalmer Heikkinen, of West Allis, will stand.
