SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A group of international Muslim NGOs, including LIFE for Relief and Development met in London, United Kingdom at the Humanitarian Forum in late June to discuss the creation of an Islamic-led entity that will attempt to build bridges and confidence.
The Humanitarian Forum concluded that the principle problem facing the Muslim charity sector is that "Muslim NGOs are being hampered, heavily restricted in their work, and in some cases, being closed down. This is having a negative impact on Muslim opinion and may prove counterproductive in the fight against terrorist financing.

I am here because I have been on the front line of America's presence in the world, in some of the most difficult security environments; and I know that the U.S. cannot rely on military power alone to keep us safe from terrorism, infectious disease, economic insecurity, and other global threats that recognize no borders. [...] I know that the military should not do what is best done by civilians. The late 1960s- when dictatorship in Brazil still restricted and shaped activism, while feminism in the North was experiencing a revival, and new forms of global capital were on the roam- was one of these latter times.2 In 1969, the radical women's health movement had burst onto the scene in Boston, with the publication of Our Bodies, Our Selves, a health manual that sought to empower women by providing accessible information about their bodies.3 The movement affirmed the power of knowledge about the body and challenged its monopoly by medical "experts." By 2008, there were twentynine foreign language editions, as well as innumerable unofficial translations and adaptations of the original.'1 Travelers from the global South encountered flourishing women's health movements in Europe and ...

As they walk into school each morning, Nicole Taylor's sons, Markeith and Derick, walk by a life-size, wooden and plaster crucifix hanging on the wall. The arms are missing. Officials found the armless statue in the attic 10 years ago as they were preparing to reopen Holy Names Catholic School in North Memphis.
Dr. Mary McDonald, Catholic Schools superintendent, told the staff to put the broken crucifix on the wall with this sign: "We are the arms of Christ in the world.

Certain things money shouldn't buy
Regarding articles on teacher reimbursement for unused sick days:I have always opposed the idea that educators (or anyone, for that matter) should be reimbursed for unused sick days. Such reimbursement is requesting a "double benefit," in addition to demonstrating a lack of appreciation for the opportunity to be absent without loss of pay when one is ill. One's salary is not, for example, $50,000 per year plus $250 for each sick day not used. It is $50,000 a year, period. I disagree with state Sen. Loretta Weinberg's view that being compensated for unused sick days "makes up for less salary" ("Sick pay windfall for some teachers," Page A- 1, Jan. 2).
