Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for fiscal year 2010 grants to expand substance abuse treatment capacity in adult drug courts. The purpose of this program is to expand and/or enhance substance abuse treatment services in "problem solving" courts that use the treatment drug court model for defendants/offenders in order to provide alcohol and drug treatment, recovery support services, screening, assessment, case management, and program coordination. It is expected that approximately $2.5 million per year will be available to fund up to eight grants. Awardees are eligible for up to $325,000 per year for up to three years. Shaw House, located at 136 Union St. in Bangor, offers emergency shelter, transitional housing, a drop-in day program and street outreach and case management support services for young people ages 10 to 18, as well as outreach services for young adults up to age 24. The shelter will be located at Smithfield United Church, on Smithfield Street, Downtown and will operate from 7 p.m.-7 a.m. until March 15, 2010. The shelter will be open whenever the weather reaches less than 25 degrees and when there are conditions of freezing rain, heavy snow and severe wind chill; and during a National Weather Service declared blizzard or emergency weather situation.
