It's no secret that banking is a troubled industry these days. But trouble for some banks means opportunity for others. That is why Carrollton Chairman, President and CEO Tom Hough has decided to start spreading the word about his bank. The Carrollton, Ill.-based bank currently has a relatively small presence in St. Charles County, operating a branch on West Clay Street in St. Charles. But that could change.

Since last month, Carrollton has given out dozens of pies, kept at the Clayton branch in a warmer, to those who opened new accounts.

• Carrollton Bank Doubles Earnings in Fourth Quarter

Carrollton Bancorp more than doubled its fourth quarter earnings in 2006 on the strength of increasing commercial loans and deposits, the company reported Thursday. The parent company of Carrollton Bank earned $803,000 in the quarter, or 28 cents per diluted share, up from $376,000 or 13 cents per diluted share in the fourth quarter of 2005. Also Thursday, the bank declared a quarterly dividend of 12 cents per share.

• Eisners Sued for $1.9m by Carrollton Bank in Baltimore City Circuit Court

Carrollton Bank has filed suit against Steven C. and Sara M. Eisner, claiming the couple owes more than $1.9 million for defaulting on a $4 million loan after their Baltimore ad agency dissolved. In papers filed in Baltimore City Circuit Court, the bank claims the couple failed to make good on the loan signed Nov. 30, 2004. The loan was to the ad agency, Eisner Communications, but the couple signed as personal guarantors.
