Congresswoman [Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick] has taken a special interest in leveling the playing field for minority-owned media outlets and advertising firms that face discrimination from major advertisers. Congresswoman Kilpatrick brought a successful NASA engineering and aeronautics program to the District for K-12 students. The Congresswoman worked with Fannie Mae to secure $18 million in home mortgages for moderate-income families. Under her leadership, the Detroit with Ownership, Wealth (WOW) program was named 2006 WOW Program of the Year.

We applaud the remarks of Supreme Court Justice Breyer. Justice Breyer, in his dissenting opinion, said that 'this is a decision that the Court and the Nation will come to regret.' The Congressional Black Caucus will continue to fight for quality education for all children, confront the crises posed to us by the Supreme Court ruling, and continue the legacy established by NAACP attorney and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall to ensure that all American children attend and receive a quality education.

American citizens deserve real solutions. The problem of securing our nation's border is not one exclusive to the southern border. The lack of adequate border control enforcement at the northern border presents a serious threat to our national security, particularly in respect to the war on terror. A border security measure calling for nothing more than a study on the northern border is grossly underestimating the threat an unsecured northern border presents to our national security.
