We are convinced that unless we believe in our integration movement and so demonstrate by strengthening its bonds significantly, unless we continue to build on the co-operation with each other, unless we are prepared to use all the skills and tools at our disposal to build a strong CARICOM Single Market and Economy < particularly those available through Information and Communication Technology < we will not be able to combat those challenges successfully," [Tillman Thomas] said. The Grenada Prime Minister said that he is also looking for ward to the establishment of the Permanent Committee of CARICOM Ambassadors (PCCA) that he and his colleagues hope will bring about a new governance structure within CAEICOM and "quicken the pace" of the regional integration movement.
A tentative agenda released to the CMC by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Consular Corps in New York, outlined a series of meetings and symposia, involving US and CARICOM leaders and officials over two days. The heads of government will also participate in a forum on the diaspora that addresses, among others, immigration and investment opportunities available to Caribbean nationals under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and the Caribbean Stock Exchange. Leaders are expected to generally "explain how the Caribbean Diaspora could make use of the opportunities available under the CSME," according to a CARICOM statement accompanying the proposed agenda.
We, the Heads of State and Government of the United States of America and of the Caribbean Community Nations of Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago, meeting in Washington D.C. on June 20, 2007, reaffirm our unequivocal commitment to a secure and prosperous region and future for the benefit of all of our citizens.

NOT ALL Caribbean Community (CARICOM) states are lowering their barriers to facilitate free movement of CARICOM nationals under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), says Anthony Hylton, Jamaica's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. We believe that there is evidence (to suggest) that some countries are more than forthcoming in the pace at which they are moving, and there have been some inconsistencies in the requirements which is having an impact on the free movement of people," Mr. Hylton told The Weekly Gleaner.
The Ministers want to stay in touch with their audience, which will be wide ranging and will have all kinds of questions on their minds," said Hugh Riley, director of marketing for the Americas of the Caribbean Tourism Organization. "Young people will want to know what's in it for them, in terms of getting involved in the tourism industry back home. There will be people in the audience who are looking for investment opportunities; and perhaps to retire in the Caribbean and who are wondering how the tourism industry can touch their lives in some way," he said. Immigration and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy are topics that are likely to surface.
PRIME MINISTER David Thompson says some Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders may be getting 'mixed up' about the difference between Barbados meeting its obligations to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and its right to set out its own immigration policy. There are a lot of people who obviously don't understand what our obligations are under the CSME so they get very mixed up. If you have a problem with the way some members of the Immigration Department dealt with the public should not be seen as the island shirking its responsibilities as mandates by the tenets of CSME," he said.
The past two years we abandoned the guest speaker format and focused on showcasing the rich culture and music of the Caribbean," said Pamela Gordon, Esq., president of the Caribbean Bar Association, said in a prepared statement. "This year, not only will our guests enjoy true Caribbean culture and music, but we decided to add more substance to the event by inviting the former Prime Minister, Mr. [P. J. Patterson], to address our theme, 'Bridging the Gap: One Single CARICOM Market and Economy. "In addition, the Honorable [Charlie Crist], Governor of Florida, will address the CBA members and personally welcome Mr. Patterson to the State of Florida," Gordon said.
Co-ordinated by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Toronto Inc., the event ran under the theme "One People, One Team, One Goal", a theme that Justice [Adrian Saunders] feels the Caribbean Court of Justice embodies. "Notwithstanding the multiplicity of flags and anthems in the region we are still one people. All of us, Caribbean people belong to one civilisation, it is essential that we in the Caribbean have ours (final court)," he said. The judge gave his audience a crash course in the functions of the CCJ, including resolving disputes rising out the Caricom Single Market and Economy , and acting as the final Court of Appeal for countries prepared to end their appeals to the British Privy Council.
