March 28 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The new Medicare expansion of cardiac rehabilitation services affirms the validity of research, guidelines, and scientific statements developed and championed by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Rehabilitation Professionals (AACVPR) over the past 20 years.
On March 23, 2006, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced in a Decision Memo that it will expand coverage for cardiac rehabilitation services to three additional groups of patients. These include Medicare beneficiaries who have had: 1) heart valve repair or replacement; 2) percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or coronary stenting; or 3) heart or combined heart-lung transplant.
