The manufacture of parts for the US Navy's F/A-18 Hornet fighter/attack aircraft by San Dimas, CA-based Mikana Manufacturing Company Inc was made easier with the company's purchase of Haas Automation units. The VF-4 vertical machining center in particular enabled a 50% increase in productivity while at the same time increasing the life span of carbide inserts on the cutting tools 12-fold. The machines can also run at higher rpm and even maintain speed during bigger and deeper cuts.
