In his artist's statement for Winterstate, [David Nakabayashi] says the inspiration for his new stock of paintings is a near-death experience: a wintry car accident that left him stranded on the side of the road in Ohio. These kinds of stories can represent truly life-altering moments that catalyze a personal re-evaluation. In Nakabayashi's case, his experience led to a reflection in which he began to consider all the people and places he'd visited and how they'd converged and conspired to bring him to that moment- sort of a predestination type of thing.

Another tragic accident involving teenagers. This time in Orange. More memorials go on the site. What a waste, of memorials and of young lives.
These stories almost always say the accident is under investigation. Why? When a car hits a tree and is the only one involved, speed and disregard for the rules of the road are the reasons. We all drive too fast, tailgate, do not use signals.

NEW YORK - A man who injured a 65-year-old woman in a hit-and- run car accident was himself critically hurt when he fell 10 stories from a Manhattan apartment building while fleeing police.
The man, identified as Pablo Clase, 21, of Brooklyn struck the woman as she was crossing Eighth Avenue near 24th Street in the Chelsea neighborhood shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, police said. The man then sped off, and several witnesses followed him in a car.
