The family of a California woman who died in a car accident has reached a $2 million settlement with the driver of the car who struck her and the driver's employer.
On July 15, 2010, while walking across a crosswalk, Gigi Darwish was struck and killed by defendant Reyna Castellon's 2006 Saturn, while Castellon was on her way to work. Castellon was employed at the time as a nanny by co-defendants John and Dana Kibler.

MORGAN FREEMAN RECOVERING AFTER SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT: A few weeks ago this column featured a mini-review of the outstanding performance of Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, who was starring in the hit Broadway play "The Country Girl." Sadly, this week I have to report that Freeman was involved in a serious car accident late last Sunday, August 4 (11:30 p.m.) in Mississippi.
Filmmaker Paul Saltzman also spoke Monday with Freeman and said the actor estimated his recovery at six to eight weeks. Freeman had recently completed a documentary, Trom Night in Mississippi," with Saltzman, detailing the actor's gift to nearby Charleston High School of a groundbreaking integrated school dance. Working with Freeman was a joy, he said, adding, "We followed him and tracked the whole thing from day o...

Hey, Cherie!
I'm a 17-year-old girl, and I think I'm a very good and safe driver. My dad taught me. He was really patient and an excellent teacher. I know two kids in my class who have been seriously injured in car accidents that were their fault, and not because they were driving under the influence. One was just trying to change something on the radio, and she slammed into the car in front of her and broke both of her wrists. The other one was just singing and goofing around with her friends in the car. Then, they saw a bee in the car, and they all freaked out; she actually hit a parked car and ended up with a concussion.

The woman claims the accident occurred after she received a call to pick up her drunk cousin and his friend while she was at her sister's house doing her hair. She said she never saw the yield sign and was speeding because she was eager to attend church the next day. According to news reports the woman committed a hit-and-run, fleeing the scene leaving Bazzi and [Ihaam El-Zaghir] to die. She said she told police it was her several times but they wouldn't believe her, and says she wasn't drunk. Family members of the victims say the police never tested the woman or the two passengers to see if they were under the influence of alcohol. Last year a witness told a local news television station the driver smelled like alcohol. The two passengers in the car with the woman weren't questioned an...

A case over a traffic accident that killed the parents of three children ended with verdicts totaling $1.75 million against the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission but defense verdicts for a hauling company and a lumber mill.
State law caps verdicts against the highway commission, so the April 9 verdicts would be reduced to about $380,000 for each parent's death. The Howard County jury found CWF Wood Products Inc. and Heavy & Specialized Haulers Inc. were not liable for the accident.
