MIAMI - Franky the drug dog's super-sensitive nose is at the heart of a question being put to the U.S. Supreme Court: Does a police K-9's sniff outside a house give officers the right to get a search warrant for illegal drugs, or is the sniff itself an unconstitutional search?
Florida's highest state court said Franky's ability to detect marijuana growing inside a Miami-area house from outside a closed front door crossed the constitutional line. State Attorney General Pam Bondi, an elected Republican, wants the nation's justices to reverse that ruling.

A consent to a traffic stop search that was obtained after an officer threatened to detain the driver until the canine unit arrived violated the defendant's constitutional rights, the Missouri Supreme Court has ruled in reversing a lower court.
The defendant was from Sweden and was driving a rented car on an interstate in a rural area of Missouri late one February night. She was stopped after her car touched the dotted lane divider on the highway.

HUDSON - Twelve dogs who are search and rescue teams' best friends received foundational search training Saturday in Evergreen Lake.
Illinois Search Dogs is hosting the training event, which continues today. Dog handlers from search teams came from several Midwestern and Southern states such as Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee to train their canines in picking up a human scent in water so they will be able to detect cadavers.

State police asked the public Tuesday to be on the lookout for an escapee with a nose for drugs and a working knowledge of search methods.
The object of the dragnet escaped while being let out of his cage Monday morning and was last seen behind the Windham Correctional Facility, near the Gorham line. He is not considered dangerous.
