Spain may have won the right to call itself world champion in soccer, but the real winners of the just-concluded World Cup are undoubtedly the people of South Africa and their "rainbow" democracy.
After investing billions in infrastructure and making sure it was completed on time, the South Africans managed to produce and present a hugely anticipated event watched and enjoyed by millions all over the globe. Despite some on-the-field controversy (disputed referee calls) and off-the-field misbehavior (see: France, bad losers), by all accounts the month-long series of games and attendant celebrations was professionally produced, peaceful and free of the crime wave pessimists had expected.

I am excited about going to South Africa and competing against the world's best street stylists," said [Anglin]. "I have a lot of training to do before now and April but I am determined to do well for Jamaica.
The principle of Red Bull Street Style is largely "everything goes". Just like in a normal game of football, participants are not allowed to use their hands or arms to control the ball, and it is also forbidden to disturb their opponents in any way during their 20-second segment. Regisford-Guéye could easily be described as a world citizen. Even though the daffodils and other smaller spring bulbs are emerging, you shouldn't stop thinking about planting bulbs. The typical tulips, daffodils and hyacinths make up the bulk of the bulb trade, but there also are many summer bulbs that should be planted in the spring for a summer display.
Dahlias, cannas and gladiolus are common, but for bright color there are few areas in the world that can compete with South Africa's bulbs. For insight into these underused bulbs, check out "The Color Encyclopedia of Cape Bulbs" by John Manning, Peter Goldblatt and Dee Snijman. Although they are sometimes difficult to grow in our climate, a well-drained spot with plenty of light during the summer will generally suffice for many of these bulbs.

Racism," [Desmond Tutu] said, "brought about Black slavery and the Jewish Holocaust." He described both as the bifurcated and ugly face of racism that emanated out of the bowels of hatred. "But, from that cesspool of malevolence," Tutu said, "came unity in a very profound way.
"God said, 'I will give my son, who died.' God said 'I will draw all to be held in an incredible embrace of divine love that will not let you go--a love that cannot change, a love that says you are precious to me, your name is engraved on my tongue. I know you by name. You are special to me. You have a preciousness that cannot be measured--a love," Tutu said, "that is not based on skin tone.
Even those Tutu said suffered "some of the most abominable atrocities were willing to forgive the perpetrators, even embra...
