LEWISTON ? An unseasonably hot night, no dormitory air conditioning and end-of-the-year excitement created the conditions for a Wednesday morning clash between Bates College students and police. Students insist police made matters worse by overreacting to a rowdy but happy late-night gathering.
INDIANA, Pa. -- When Alan Seymour set out to offer students a safe and fun alternative to the late-night party scene, he looked for an activity that could draw a diverse crowd. Seymour, of Indiana, thinks he found it: video games.
A University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman was found dead inside a dorm suite early Monday and has been identified as Luke David Murphy, 19, of New London, according to university spokesman Tom Luljak. UWM police continue to investigate the death, which was reported just before 6 a.m. at Sandburg Hall, 3400 N. Maryland Ave., where Luljak said Murphy was staying after attending an off-campus party Sunday night.
REDLANDS - One hundred years of higher education at the University of Redlands is a heritage that sprang from the rubble of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The destruction depleted the finances of Baptist California College in Oakland. An attempt to open a Baptist college at an alternative site in Los Angeles failed.
A Teaneck college student was shot and six others injured Sunday after a fight erupted at Fairleigh Dickinson University between students from the school's two campuses. The brawl began at the student center on the Florham Park campus, where the Association of Black Collegians sponsored a party following a fashion show at the school's Teaneck campus.
State Police and Allegany village police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old St. Bonaventure University student who collapsed at an off-campus party early Sunday morning. School colors will be zipping down the slopes starting Monday, when College Week comes to the Sunday River and Sugarloaf ski resorts. The annual festivities bring discounted lift tickets, tons of live music and a rocking off-campus party scene. Both mountains will offer $39 lift tickets (with college ID) from Monday through Friday and plenty of deals on ski and stay packages.
BLOOMINGTON - Law enforcement officials said Fool's Fest did not generate any problems outside of what is usually seen on weekend nights in the Twin Cities. Arrests were up in downtown Bloomington on Friday, but police said that had more to do with the increased police presence than any problems from the much-hyped party, which began as a social media campaign by Illinois State University students wanting to have a large campus party this weekend.
