NEW HAVEN -- The city's Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees has decided to take on its recreation mandate this summer by offering four weeklong camps for children ages 10 to 17. The camps will give students more individual instruction at a smaller cost than most sports camps, said Bill Dixon, deputy director of the department.
State law caps the student-teacher ratio at 7 to 1, Dixon said, and most of the four-day-long camps cost just over $100.

NATURE CAMPS: The Manheim Township Recreation Department will hold half-day nature camps for ages 4 to 6 (mornings) and 6 to 10 (afternoons).
The camps will run Monday through Friday the weeks of June 20 and 27 and July 5 (Tuesday to Friday) and 11.

Irwin's Recreation Committee is offering several recreation camps in Irwin Park this summer.
Soccer camp is held from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for students entering grades three, four, and five; and from 10 to 11:15 a.m. for students entering grades six, seven and eight.

Some parents are worried recent cuts to Paterson's summer recreation budget will leave their children without a place to go to camp.

BASEBALL: Canisius College will host a "Kids Night Out with the Griffs," an overnight for children ages 6-13 at the Koessler Athletic Center from 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 to 9 a.m. Dec. 17.
