It is encouraging that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's approval rating is very much on decline and that firefighters and school teachers were out picketing his appearance at California Steel Industries ("Governor on the go,' by Kelly Rayburn, April 28). Schwarzenegger considers firefighters and teachers "special interest' groups, because they belong to unions. How is it that giant corporations, financial institutions and private untility companies that make large contributions to his publicity campaigns escape his criticism? Are they not special interests?

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - A lot of memories of a long-defunct steel mill were shared Sunday. The Kaiser Steel-Fontana Museum held a reunion with employees from Kaiser Steel and California Steel Industries from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The steel-manufacturing industry helped put Fontana and its Kaiser Steel Mill on the map. Many of Kaiser Steel's workers retired when it closed in 1983, but some took jobs at other manufacturing plants like California Steel Industries, which sits on the former Kaiser mill site.

Boyd II's remarks in his letter "He represented" (March 29 and TribLIVE.com) concerning the need for real reform -- not the horrific bill that Congress rammed down our throats. And I understand his gratitude to Rep. Jason Altmire for doing what his constituents demanded and voting against this monstrosity. However, Altmire is also a big part of the problem for one reason: He is a member of the Democratic Party. He helps create a Democrat majority in Congress, which results in San Francisco's Nancy Pelosi becoming House speaker, able to set the agenda and drive these kinds of ultraliberal disasters through Congress, and all kinds of leftists chairing importan...
