Apple Inc. will sell 16 of the late John Lennon's solo albums from EMI Group Plc, including "Lennon Legend" and "Acoustic," through its iTunes online music store. Videos of the Beatles co-founder will also be included with some albums for 30 days, Cupertino, California-based Apple said today in a statement. Lennon, who recorded songs including "Imagine" and "(Just Like) Starting Over" during his solo career, was shot to death in New York in 1980 at the age of 40.

Not enough school districts have lined up to provide laptops to their freshmen students, threatening efforts to expand the revolutionary program beyond the seventh and eighth grades. Apple, the California-based computer giant, had agreed to provide laptops to Maine schools for $300 each if the state could promise its schools would lease at least 8,400 laptops. The deal would have provided some training as well as maintenance of the laptops. The proposal for schools to obtain laptops for their own students was crafted by the state Department of Education after a proposal for the state to help buy laptops for all Maine freshmen was killed in the last session of the Legislature. The state provides laptops to Maine's middle-school students.

BEIJING - An explosion at one of two factories that make Apple's new iPad 2 highlights the risks of a global manufacturing strategy that has cut costs but concentrates production in a few locations. Foxconn Technology Group, the contractor that manufactures Apple's iPhones and iPads, said Friday's blast in the western city of Chengdu killed three employees and injured 15. The Taiwanese company said production was suspended but did not respond to questions Monday about how supplies of iPads might be affected.

Planning ahead for regional growth and potential drought, a High Desert agency expects to spend $3million this year to buy water from the California Aqueduct for its thirsty customers. Directors of the Apple Valley-based Mojave Water Agency will meet in Barstow on Thursday to consider purchasing 15,000 acre-feet of aqueduct water to bank in underground storage basins.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Three men accused of being part of an insider trading conspiracy to leak technology company secrets to hedge funds were allowed to remain free on bail on Tuesday [Jan. 4]. The men are Walter Shimoon, a former Flextronics employee in California accused of leaking secrets about Apple Inc.'s iPad ahead of its launch; James Fleishman, who is on leave from his sales job at the California-based research firm Primary Global Research; and Mark Longoria, a Texas-based supply chain manager for Advanced Micro Devices.
