John Amos Plant Has a New Look By Marty Chapman, President The skyline over the John Amos Plant is changing on almost a daily basis. Most visible are the two new chimneys under construction as part of a major project to add flue gas desulfurization (FGD) units (scrubbers) to all three of the plants generating units. Scrubbers use a chemical process to reduce up to 98 percent of the sulfur dioxide (SO2) emitted from the plant as a result of the coal-burning process. Amos Plants new FGD systems will begin operating in the 2008 time frame. The scrubbers join a list of other plant equipment that reduces emissions.
