BLOOMINGTON - Like many men, Randy Gelsthorpe dreamed of one day owning his own bar and restaurant.
When his employer, Electrolux, announced early last year that it would be closing its Bloomington office, Gelsthorpe was disappointed but only half-surprised. The company and its predecessors have a rich Twin City history that stretches back nearly 90 years, but its local footprint has been shrinking for decades.

Before a local group decided to kidnap 01513, the 42-year-old Denver and Rio Grande caboose looked like it was bound for the dump.
It sat alone in the downtown Colorado Springs rail yard, pocked with rust and slathered in grime. Layers of graffiti dripped down faded, bulldozer-yellow flanks dented by decades spent rolling over stormy passes in the Rockies. Vandals had smashed the windows. Hobos had trashed the inside.

LEWISTON -- The ice cream caboose on the waterfront was a hot topic Monday night but still remains stalled as discussion continued between Village Board members and residents who oppose the plan.
Mayor Richard F. Soluri, Planning Board Chairman Victor Eydt and Silo Restaurant manager Alan Hastings met at the Silo after the meeting to hash out the two development plans that have been proposed for the 8-by-35-foot caboose, which would be built on the village-owned waterfront park, adjacent to the Silo.

Preserved under that glowing surface is a layer of rust-colored "Tuscan Red" -- the Pennsylvania Railroad's official train color, a symbol of the past.
