Bet you didn't know the 2004 prep football season hadn't finished yet. Actually, the final chapter was written Monday with the anticlimactic release of the All-CIF football teams.
Six county seniors made the prestigious 45-man All-CIF Southern Section first-team squad Rim of the World RT/DT Jess Ward, Arroyo Valley QB/S Michael Coleman and Upland WR Brian Haith on offense, and Kaiser lineman Bernard Afutiti, Serrano DB Justin Jackson and UCLA-bound Chino safety Shawn Oatis on defense.

SANTA ANA - When the Redlands Adventist boys' basketball team saw its opponents from Los Angeles Arshag Dickranian starting to grab at their shorts in the second quarter, it knew that it was just a matter of time until the Lions fell by the wayside in the CIF-SS Division 6A championship game Friday at Mater Dei High School.
The fatigued Lions finally wilted under RAA's relentless pressure in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs scored 15 of the first 17 points of the final period, getting the separation necessary for a 61-42 victory and the school's first CIF championship.

PHELAN - When Serrano's Adam Shaffer knocked down Palm Springs' last pass and he and his teammates could finally relax with 14 seconds left to play, the Diamondbacks and their long-waiting faithful let loose with shouts and tears of joy that are the priceless treasures of champions.
Undefeated, 14-0 CIF-Southern Section Division VIII champions, in this case.

"My chest is a bit pufted out more," [Tony Scott] said, "There's just something about winning a CIF championship that gives you a sense of pride."
[...] with another City title in tow, there's no reason to think why despite being the No. 2 seed in the Southern California state regional tournament to Mater Dei, they are the team to beat. The Cavaliers have a wealth of talented athletes but Farmer ...

PASADENA - Camarillo High's Johnny Ruiz thought the golf cup looked the size of a basketball hoop - as he mimicked with his hands - Tuesday at Brookside Golf Club.
Ruiz drained a 15-foot putt on his second hole of the day, the 17th at Brookside No. 1, and putted his way to a 4-under 68 and a tie for first place in the CIF/SCGA regional final.
